Purpose of the role:
We are seeking an outstanding Digital Workplace Team Lead to head up our 3rd Line Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) team. This is a leadership position where you will lead a talented and motivated team to deliver cutting-edge IT solutions to support the business. You will be at the forefront of shaping and improving our digital workplace, with a focus on leveraging O365, Azure, and VMware technologies.

Your technical expertise, combined with your ability to effectively communicate with colleagues across the organization, will be key to delivering results and achieving our vision of becoming the best in the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the administration and maintenance of Microsoft systems, primarily within the Azure Cloud and on-premises environments, ensuring high availability and security across all platforms.
- Manage and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 stack, including Exchange Online, Intune, and Defender 365, ensuring a seamless user experience.
- Oversee VMware vSphere Clusters, ensuring the environment is optimized for performance and reliability.
- Drive a Cloud-first approach, providing highly available services for our geographically diverse workforce.
- Foster a culture of high availability by designing and supporting cloud environments that meet industry best practices.
- Enforce high security standards across Cloud and on-premises systems, ensuring end-to-end protection for internal systems and user workstations.
- Automate processes and daily routines to increase efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
- Collaborate with the Workplace Response (Service Desk) team to resolve internal support issues quickly and effectively.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rota, ensuring the organization has round-the-clock coverage.
- Lead and manage project delivery related to the Microsoft stack, from planning to execution, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop team members, helping them unlock their full potential and achieve personal and professional growth.
- Provide proactive guidance on task delegation, workload management, and performance improvement.
- Take ownership of planning and budgeting for future IT projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Person Specification, Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
Required Experience:
- Proven experience in a leadership role with a track record of managing technical teams.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in systems administration, with a strong understanding of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 services.
- Expertise in managing VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi environments.
- Strong proficiency in Windows Server (2016-2019), including storage, networks, and system administration.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- The ability to prioritise tasks effectively and work independently under pressure.
- A keen attention to detail, ensuring all systems and services meet the highest standards.
Essential Skills:
- Deep knowledge of Azure and M365 services.
- Expertise in mobility technologies, including MDM solutions like Intune and Apple Business Manager.
- Experience with Cloud architectures and designing high-availability systems.
- Proficiency in Windows Server administration and VMware ESXi (7.0 and above).
- A collaborative, flexible team player with the ability to lead by example.
Desirable Skills:
- A bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field is advantageous.
- Familiarity with modern automation tools such as Power Automate, Azure DevOps, Bicep and CI/CD methodologies.
- Knowledge of Atlassian tools (Jira/Confluence).
- Experience with backup/restore technologies for both virtual and physical servers.
- Basic experience in MacOS management and Linux systems (e.g., SSH).
- Certifications:
- Microsoft Certifications (e.g., Azure, M365 Associate).
- Azure or M365 Associate Certifications (e.g., AZ, SC, MS series).
- VCP / VCA Certification would be a plus.
