Purpose of the role:
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior qualified lawyer with at least 5 years post qualification experience (PQE) to play a key role in managing BVGroup’s legal workload across a variety of commercial, regulatory, and governance matters.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Group Director of Legal and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to mitigate regulatory risks and support business growth. This role suits a proactive, solution-oriented legal professional comfortable working autonomously in a dynamic environment.
You will work across a broad spectrum of legal areas including commercial contracts, SaaS agreements, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and contentious matters, alongside supporting company secretary duties.
Key responsibilities/duties:
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of legal documents, including commercial contracts, SaaS agreements, intellectual property documentation, intercompany agreements, confidentiality agreements, and contentious matters.
- Providing prompt and practical legal advice in response to ad hoc queries across the business.
- Drafting and updating of customer terms and conditions.
- Managing the legal workload effectively, prioritising tasks and ensuring timely delivery of legal support to various business areas.
- Supporting company secretarial duties, including assisting with regulatory filings and governance documentation.
- Collaborating closely with Compliance to assist in the preparation of legal documents and queries related to new license applications and ongoing regulatory requirements.
- Preparing and presenting legal risk reports to the board/audit and risk meetings as necessary.
- Supporting internal and external audit projects and ensure that such projects are completed in a timely manner and with the necessary deliverables.
- Preparing and delivering ad-hoc legal training sessions to the company to assist in developing internal knowledge and managing risk.
- Working with policy owners across the business to manage policies and procedures to ensure that they are maintained and periodically updated.
- Assisting in creating legal template documentation to facilitate business needs.
- Monitoring changes to legislation to ensure company legal risk is adequately managed.
- Putting in place policies and procedures for the legal team to ensure efficient and compliant management.
- Working to create efficiencies in existing legal processes, including implementing new technology to drive automation where possible. Person specification, skills, experience and qualifications:
- Qualified senior lawyer (UK or EU qualification) with at least 5 years PQE, ideally with significant in-house experience.
- Proven track record as a strong, proactive legal professional with excellent judgment and the ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
- Solid knowledge of commercial law, corporate governance, intellectual property, and regulatory frameworks. Experience in the gambling sector is not mandatory but would be a plus.
- Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts including SaaS agreements.
- Familiarity with anti-money laundering, safer gambling, data protection, and other compliance-related rules and regulations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills and experience in managing competing demands.
- Highly organised with excellent time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and senior management.
- A self-motivated, curious, and adaptable approach with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities.
- Right to work in EU.
